Conformity Assessment Modules
We guide you in identifying the right module or combination of modules for your product category and equipment group.
MODULE B EC Type ExaminationAnnex 3
Examination of the technical design of the product and verification that it meets the essential health and safety requirements of the directive and harmonized standards.
MODULE D Type Conformity: Production Quality Assurance Annex 4
Assessment and surveillance of the manufacturer’s production quality management system to ensure conformity with the approved type.
MODULE E Type Conformity: Product Quality Assurance Annex 7
Assessment and surveillance of the manufacturer’s product quality assurance system covering final product inspection and testing.
MODULE A Internal Control of Production Appendix 8
Evaluation of the manufacturer’s internal production control ensuring that products conform to the technical documentation and directive requirements.
MODULE G Unit Verification Annex 9
Individual examination and testing of a single product to verify its conformity with the applicable requirements of the directive.

Which Module for Which Category?
The conformity assessment route is determined by the equipment category and type. The table below summarises the typical routes under 2014/34/EU.
| Category | Usage Zones | Protection Level | Typical Assessment Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| M1 / 1G / 1D | Zone 0 / 20 | Very high | Module B (EU Type Examination) + Module D (Production Quality Assurance) or Module G (Unit Verification) |
| M2 / 2G / 2D | Zone 1 / 21 | High | Electrical and internal-combustion equipment: Module B + Module E (Product Quality Assurance) or Module G |
| 2G / 2D | Zone 1 / 21 | High (non-electrical) | Module A (Internal Production Control) + lodging of the technical file with the notified body |
| 3G / 3D | Zone 2 / 22 | Normal | Module A (Internal Production Control) |
| Single product | All zones | - | Module G (conformity based on Unit Verification) |
